My Hand & Desk: Innovative Solutions for Muscular Dystrophy and Amputation
The concept behind My Hand & Desk was developed to assist individuals affected by muscular dystrophies or amputations. My Hand is a prosthetic designed to provide a functional and adaptive solution for users, while Desk is a physiotherapeutic bracelet aimed at maximizing nerve recovery for those with damaged or paralyzed nerves.
The prosthetic fingers of My Hand are co-molded in ABS and silicone rubber, ensuring complete waterproofing and durability. The prototype is created using laser sintering and co-molding techniques. This project represents a blend of advanced prosthetics and engineering, showcasing Italian innovation. Developed in collaboration with D ARC Studio and designers Massimiliano Zanni, Mattia Bonavolontà, and Marco Bonanni, it was presented at the Fuorisalone Milano Lambrate 2015 at the Wacom Darc Studio stand.
My Hand: Advancing Bionic Technology
The frontier of bionics moves forward with the My Hand project, a bionic hand that translates thoughts into movement and restores tactile sensations. Remarkably, My Hand is aesthetically pleasing and requires no surgical implantation. The acronym stands for Myoelectric-Hand prosthesis with Afferent Non-invasive feedback Delivery.
Features and Technology
This cutting-edge bionic hand features integrated tactile sensors on the fingers, designed to offer a new level of connection between the prosthesis and its user. These sensors capture environmental interactions and convey tactile feedback through vibrators located on the residual limb. The hand uses three electric motors and an opposable thumb for gripping, with a single motor mechanism allowing alternating rotation of the thumb and flexion of the index finger.
The technology behind My Hand is as advanced as its design. The external aesthetics were prioritized, reflecting the sophisticated internal mechanisms crucial for functionality. The palm incorporates thin titanium plates and silicone shells—soft inside and more rigid on the outside—to enhance both comfort and durability. This design ensures that users can both feel and grasp objects effectively.
